Alice

Alice is a program that is used to make simple animations.

Alice has a wide variety of objects from dinosaurs to farm animals. It also has different settings that your story can take place in.

The only use Alice really has is to help teach first time animators the basics of animation and to just make animations for fun.

The pros of Alice are that it is a fun program, many animations can be made, and its a great teaching tool.

The cons of Alice are that after a few animations it can get boring, The graphics are not the best, and you are limited to the figures that they give you.

I made a weird world that was basically the first thing that popped into my head. It had different animals fighting against a group of people.

I enjoyed Alice when we got to make our own worlds. Following the directions of the worlds that we were told to make was extremely boring.

I will definitley not be using Alice in the future. It is a nice program, but I have better things I could be doing.

Cyberbullying

Cyberbullying is where someone affects annother person psycologically in a hurtful way through the internet.

Article Title: Judge Throws Out Conviction In Cyberbuillying Case

In Los Angles, a federal judge had thrown out a case on cyber bullying. A Missouri woman was harassing a 13 year old girl on a fake Myspace account which had lead to her suicide. Instead of the maximum sentence of 3 years in prison and a $300,000 fine, she received a year of probation and a $5,000 fine.
I believe this woman Lori Drew should have been sentenced the maximum sentence. She was truly responsible for the hanging of this 13 year old girl for the things she had said to her. It is very irresponsible of that judge to give her such a light sentence. What makes me very angry is the fact that Lori had left the room smiling about her light sentence.
She was hanged in her room. A statement was made by Lori that “the world would be better off without you.” Then the 13 year old replied that “you are a person worth dieing for”, then hanged herself.
Her mother must have noticed a change in her daughter’s behavior. There is no way that she would just go ahead and kill herself over one statement made to her. This must have been over time and I believe the parents should have been paying attention on what her child was doing on the computer.
This case does not apply to me personally, but it happens every day. There were 2 cases of teenagers hanging themselves in the Roanoke valley for Cyber bullying. It is turning into a very serious problem and should be handled with harsh punishments.

Internet ettiquette

5 rules for internet etiquette are:
1. Respect other peoples time and bandwidth.
2. Respect other peoples privacy.
3. Make yourself look good online.
4. Share expert knowledge.
5. know where you are in cyberspace.

The article on page 287 just basically says act how you would with other people while not being on the internet and to basically be respectful.
7 netiquettes listed:
1. Behave as though you are communicating with a person.- type to someone as you would talk to them face to face. very good rule
2. Remember that your words are open to interpretation.- people could misenterpret something you type, word it carefully
3. Do not "shout" online.- typing in all caps gets annoying, annother good rule
4. Do not "flame" other users.- Flaming is basically to be criticized on the internet, it gets very annoying and this is a good rule
5. Do not send spam.- nothing is more annoying than spam
6. Do not distribute copyrighted material.- A very good rule, it is against the law anyways
7. Do not be a coward.- could be misinterpreted, it probably means that do not make a random screen name just to misbehave


Netiquette is important because if it is not followed, other people could get offended.

Acceptable Use Policy

An AUP is the terms of use for the computer and/or internet at a job, school, library, tc..
A AUP is used at glenvar to try and minimize the playing of games and doing stuff not related to school.
5 rules and why they would be important are:
No games unless on break- keep the worker doing his job
no personal emails- so people do not bring their personal problems into work
no inappropriate sites- should not be at a workplace in the first place
do not try and bypass security- it is put in place for a reason
no downloading things that are not work related- keeps viruses off the computers

An AUP policy be put in place at a job by making rules and guidelines for the employees to follow.

AUP's are necessary because without them, very little work would get done.
IF i was the boss of a large company I would have the rules that I had listed above.

An emotion is how you are feeling.
An emoticon is a visual representation of your emotions used in mainly IMing or texting.

1. A set of tags and rules used in developing hypertext documents.
2. A tag is a set of directions used to produce a certain part of a webpage.
3. Open tags start the direction and close tags end it. Any thing in between is directed for that specific direction.
4. place html(with tags) at the very front of the webpage and /html(with tags) at the very end. These should stay there the whole time. Search the internet for tags that look like this <> . <> is an open tag which starts the certain direction of what you want the computer to do while ends the direction. Anything typed in between here is directed toward the specific direction. You can get different tags from sites such as quackit.com.

6. HTML was actually pretty fun to do. I had previously researched html on my own and had created a site very simmilar to the one we did in class. I had forgotten everthing i had learned and this was a good memory refresher. I do not think this would help me in the future, but anything is possible.

Post 4

The purpose of an ethernet cable is to connect your computer to a network, such as the internet.

1. Get materials
-Networking cable
-2 RJ-45 jacks
-Cable cutting pliers
2. pull cable out of box to desired length
3. strip a small portion of the insulation on the networking cable, about ¾ an inch
4. untwist and spread the wires out
-order of wires (left to right)
-light orange
-dark orange
-light green
-dark blue
-light blue
-dark green
-light brown
-dark brown
5. clip part facing down, you insert the wires in the correct order. Each wire has its own slot
6. make sure the gold on the cables are touching the gold on the RJ-45 jack
7. use the pliers to clamp down the RJ-45 jack
8. repeat steps 2-8 on the other end

Creating an ethernet cable was not hard at all for me. It can get annoying because there are so many places that you can mess up such as that the wires have to be in a certain order. I messed up once by flipping the wires the opposite way they were supposed to go in. I should have been more careful. It is really easy to build a cord, just make sure you double and triple check everything, including the order of the wires.

A network is a group of computers that are connected that can share information. We need a network to have access to the internet and it is very useful in schools and buisnesses..
The four benefits of using a network are:
Information sharing, hardware sharing, software sharing, collaberative enviornment
Differentiate between WANs and LANs.
WAN is a wide area network composed of local area networks LANS. LAN is used in a small geographical area while WAN can be as big as you want it.

Four people were indicted of obtaining and releasing copyrighted music on the internet. They were charged with one count indictment from being upper level members of a music piracy group called "Rabid Neurosis." Members of this association were granted access to thousands of pirated music, software, and videogames before their release date. If convicted, these 4 people face a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release, as well as possible orders of restitution.

The purpose of a blog is i guess to inform other people on whatever your blog is about. Blogs are really only good for infomation, but they might not be 100% safe. If you put personal information on it and even if you take the proper security measures theres still a chance that someone might find it. There are extremely good hackers out there that could easily hack into your blog and take some of your personal information. I do not see how blogs could be an educational tool, what are you going to do? You could ask certain questions but there are other methods better than a blog such as blackboard.
